Most Americans Don't Believe Fully Funded Health Care Is a Right, Policygenius Survey Finds

And nearly 31% wouldn't be willing to pay a penny more in taxes for universal health care

Almost 63% of people don't feel fully funded health care is a right of all Americans, a new Policygenius survey finds.

So what do they think are rights? More than 60% of survey respondents feel Americans are entitled to public education (62.3%), clean water (61.8%) and police/fire department services (60%). In fact, the only service with less support than health care, in terms of the government footing the bill, is trash pickup (30%).

On top of that, 31% of Americans would not be willing to pay anything — that's $0 — beyond what they're already paying in annual taxes to have fully funded health care. That's counterintuitive, given that the average American spends nearly $10,000 a year on health care costs, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. This breaks down to paying about $4,000 on premiums and almost $4,500 on out-of-pocket expenses before hitting a deductible.

Democrats & Low-Income Americans More Open to Universal Health Care

The survey found Democrats are most likely (69%) to think fully funded health care is a right of all Americans, substantially more than Republicans (20%) and Independents (43%).

Surprisingly, individuals in lower income brackets are willing to put a bigger portion of their paychecks toward universal health care compared to those at the higher end — 27% of people making more than $150,000 a year said they would not pay any additional taxes,16% of people making $35,000 to $49,999 a year said they'd be willing to pay between $2,000 to $5,000 more annually to ensure all Americans would be covered.

"Public sentiment around health insurance suggests two things," Jennifer Fitzgerald, Policygenius CEO and co-founder, said. "People are woefully unaware of how much they're currently paying for health insurance. Their feelings on health care are also largely linked to their politics and ideals, not their finances."

Methodology: Policygenius commissioned Google Consumer Surveys to poll a nationally representative sample of 1,500 adults ages 25 to 64 online from Oct. 10 to Oct. 12, 2017. The survey's margin of error is between 3% and 5%. You can see the full survey results here.

NBG Group announces the completion of the sale of its Serbian Operations

National Bank of Greece S.A. (“NBG”) announces the completion of the sale of its 100% stake in its Serbian subsidiaries Vojvodjanska Banka AD (“VOBAN”) and NBG Leasing doo (“NBG Leasing”) for a consideration of €125 million and of a portfolio of Serbian-risk corporate loans (together the “Transaction”), following receipt of the required regulatory and anti-trust approvals.

The consideration represents a multiple of c. 0.75x P/TBV(1) .The successful completion of the Transaction increases NBG’s Q3.17 CET1 Ratio by +44bps, following the capital impact already booked in Q2.17 upon signing of the Transaction. The positive impact on ΝBG’s Group Liquidity, including repayment of intra-group debt, is c.€270 million.

Piraeus Bank and The Royal Mint, on November 30th 2017, celebrated the first anniversary of their exclusive agreement for the distribution of the Gold Sovereign across Greece. Stellar Acquisition III Inc. Confirms Receipt of Sponsor Funds to Extend Period to Consummate Acquisition

Stellar Acquisition III Inc. HP: Ολοκλήρωσε την εξαγορά του τμήματος επαγγελματικών εκτυπωτών της Samsung

Χάκερ κατάφεραν να κλέψουν bitcoins συνολικής αξίας 80 εκατ. δολαρίων

Χάκερ κατάφεραν, άγνωστο πώς, να αποσπάσουν από την υπηρεσία NiceHash, που εδρεύει στη Σλοβενία, bitcoins, η συνολική αξία των οποίων υπολογίζεται στα 80 εκατ. δολάρια.

Σύμφωνα με τον διευθύνοντα σύμβουλο της NiceHash, Μάρκο Κομπάλ, οι κυβερνοεγκληματίες κατάφεραν να παραβιάσουν τον υπολογιστή ενός εργαζομένου και να αποσπάσουν τη λεία τους.

Η εταιρεία ανακοίνωσε πως καταβάλλει προσπάθειες, ώστε σε συνεργασία με την αστυνομία να βρεθούν οι ένοχοι και να ανακτηθεί το ποσό.

Fraport: Ανακοίνωσε την επέκταση του αεροδρομίου Καβάλας με επένδυση 10 εκατ. ευρώ

Την επέκταση του αεροδρομίου της Καβάλας «Μέγας Αλέξανδρος» κατά 2.000 τετραγωνικά μέτρα ανακοίνωσε η Fraport Greece.

«Μέχρι το 2019 το αεροδρόμιο θα μπορεί να υποδεχθεί τον μεγάλο αριθμό τουριστών που αναμένεται έως τότε», ανέφερε ο Διευθύνων Σύμβουλος της εταιρείας, Αλεξάντερ Τσίνελ, και εκτίμησε ότι τον φετινό χειμώνα η επιβατική κίνηση θα είναι τέσσερις φορές μεγαλύτερη συγκριτικά με το χειμώνα του 2016.

Όσο για το κόστος του έργου, αναμένεται να φτάσει τα 10 εκατ. ευρώ.

Ερντογάν: Επιστρέφει στην Τουρκία για συνάντηση με τον Πούτιν

Ο Βλαντιμίρ Πούτιν θα πραγματοποιήσει επίσημη επίσκεψη στην Άγκυρα προκειμένου να συζητήσει διά ζώσης με τον Τούρκο πρόεδρο την κατάσταση στη Συρία και τις εξελίξεις μετά την αναγνώριση της Ιερουσαλήμ ως πρωτεύουσας του Ισραήλ από τον Τραμπ. Άλλωστε οι δυο τους είχαν την Πέμπτη τηλεφωνική επικοινωνία, κατά την οποία συμφώνησαν πως η απόφαση των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών να αναγνωρίσουν την Ιερουσαλήμ ως πρωτεύουσα του Ισραήλ θα επηρεάσει αρνητικά την ειρήνη και τη σταθερότητα της περιοχής.

Είναι σχεδόν βέβαιο ότι στην ατζέντα της συνάντησης θα βρίσκονται και οι ρωσοτουρκικές σχέσεις που τα τελευταία χρόνια έχουν περάσει από χίλια κύματα.

Μία ελληνική εταιρεία φιγουράρει στη λίστα με τις 1.000 ευρωπαϊκές επιχειρήσεις που πραγματοποίησαν τις μεγαλύτερες επενδύσεις σε έρευνα το 2016-17.

Σύμφωνα, μάλιστα, με την έκθεση Επενδύσεις Έρευνας και Ανάπτυξης (2017 EU R&D Investment Scoreboard) που δημοσιοποίησε το Κέντρο Ερευνών (JRC) και η Γενική Διεύθυνση Έρευνας και Καινοτομίας της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής, η Creta Farms αποτελεί τοn μοναδικό καθετοποιημένο παραγωγό κρέατος που δημιουργεί τη μεγαλύτερη επένδυση σε έρευνα, ανάπτυξη και καινοτομία.

Δύο νεκροί και πάνω από 200 τραυματίες σε επεισόδια ανάμεσα σε Παλαιστίνιους και Ισραηλινούς

Μεγάλης έκτασης επεισόδια σημειώνονται εδώ και λίγες ώρες στην Ιερουσαλήμ και την κατεχόμενη Δυτική Οχθη ανάμεσα σε Παλαιστίνιους διαδηλωτές και τις ισραηλινές δυνάμεις ασφαλείας, με την παλαιστινιακή Ερυθρά Ημισέληνο να κάνει λόγο για τουλάχιστον δύο νεκρούς και περισσότερους από 200 τραυματίες.

Η κίνηση του Ντόναλντ Τραμπ να αναγνωρίσει την Ιερουσαλήμ ως πρωτεύουσα του Ισραήλ ήταν βέβαιο ότι θα πυροδοτήσει αντιδράσεις και θα προκαλέσει αναταραχή στη Μέση Ανατολή.

Σύμφωνα με όσα έχουν γίνει γνωστά από το υπουργείο Υγείας των Παλαιστινίων, η ταυτότητα του ενός νεκρού είναι του Μοχάμεντ αλ-Μάσρι, ηλικίας 30 ετών, ο οποίος τραυματίστηκε θανάσιμα σε συγκρούσεις με τις ισραηλινές δυνάμεις ασφαλείας στα σύνορα της Γάζας.

Amazon: Έλεγχοι για τις συνθήκες εργασίας από το ιταλικό υπουργείο Εργασίας

Με το βραβείο «Καρλομάγνος 2018» τιμήθηκε ο Εμάνουελ Μακρόν «για το όραμά του για τη νέα Ευρώπη», όπως ανακοίνωσε η πόλη Άαχεν.

Το συγκεκριμένο βραβείο απονέμεται από το 1950 και έπειτα σε όσους ξεχωρίζουν για την προσήλωσή τους στην Ευρώπη και την ευρωπαϊκή ιδέα και κατά το παρελθόν έχει δοθεί στην Άνγκελα Μέρκελ και τον πάπα Φραγκίσκο.

Η Επιτροπή του βραβείου Καρλομάγνος, που απαρτίζεται κυρίως από αξιωματούχους της πόλης Άαχεν, εκτίμησε ότι ο Γάλλος πρόεδρος παρουσίασε προτάσεις που θα αλλάξουν προς το καλύτερο την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση.

Ο Μακρόν, ο οποίος δήλωσε ότι αποτελεί μεγάλη τιμή γι' αυτόν η απόφαση της Επιτροπής, θα παραλάβει το βραβείο «Καρλομάγνος 2018» στις 10 Μαΐου 2018 στο Άαχεν.

Ρέγκλινγκ για θεσμούς: Από κουαρτέτο θα γίνουν ντουέτο

Απίθανο θεωρεί ο Κλάους Ρέγκλινγκ το σενάριο το ΔΝΤ να εμπλακεί ξανά σε μελλοντικά προγράμματα της Ευρωζώνης, καθώς το ρόλο αυτό θα μπορούσε να αναλάβει ο ESM.

Όπως, δε, εξήγησε ο επικεφαλής του, ο ESM και η Κομισιόν θα έχουν σε μια τέτοια περίπτωση την εντολή να σχεδιάσουν, να διαπραγματευτούν και να εποπτεύσουν από κοινού προγράμματα διάσωσης, με αποτέλεσμα από κουαρτέτο θεσμών να περάσουμε σε ντουέτο.

Αυτά τα καθήκοντα, σε συνδυασμό με τη διαχείριση μιας περιορισμένης δημοσιονομικής ικανότητας για σταθεροποίηση και ενδεχομένως με κάποια συμμετοχή σε ένα πλαίσιο αναδιάρθρωσης του χρέους, θα μπορούσε να δικαιολογήσει την αλλαγή του ονόματος από ESM σε EMF, σύμφωνα με τα όσα είπε ο Ρέγκλινγκ μιλώντας σήμερα σε ημερίδα στο Λουξεμβούργο.

Στις 22/12 κλείνουν τα σχολεία για διακοπές Χριστουγέννων

Τυχεροί είναι φέτος οι μαθητές, καθώς θα έχουν τη δυνατότητα να ξεκουραστούν δύο επιπλέον ημέρες κατά τη διάρκεια των διακοπών των Χριστουγέννων.

Αναλυτικότερα, τα σχολεία φέτος θα κλείσουν στις 22 Δεκεμβρίου, ημέρα Παρασκευή, και θα ανοίξουν ξανά στις 8 Ιανουαρίου, ημέρα Δευτέρα.

Σύμφωνα με την απόφαση του υπουργείου Παιδείας, τα δημοτικά, γυμνάσια, ΓΕΛ και ΕΠΑΛ δεν λειτουργούν από 24 Δεκεμβρίου έως και 7 Ιανουαρίου.
